Undeel

Lamp, late 20th century AD, Wood and brass

This lamp is made of cedar wood, and is lathe turned.  It has a narrow neck tapering out to a bulbous body, and a cylindrical base, which has two grooves around its body.  Attached to the ridge in the narrowing above the base, it has a brass dial for regulating the flame.  The lamp showcases the beauty of the cedar wood, which is the tree for which Lebanon is famous.  It features an image of Saint Charbel in a circle at the bottom of the top part of the lamp.  Saint Charbel is an important Maronite saint, and the lamp is significant for his worship.
