Garments

Garments: shirt; waistcoat; trousers, late 20th century AD, Cloth and thread

These garments, combined with the ‘tarboush’, which is described elsewhere, are the traditional dress from the village, which was used on formal occasions.  They are comprised of a white shirt, and a waistcoat and trousers, which are in black fabric embroidered with white thread.  The embroidery is in traditional patterns, including floral designs on the front panels and back of the waistcoat, and on the top and bottom of the trousers.  There is a decorative border of spirals on the edges of the waistcoat and at the bottom of the trousers.  Such dress is found in many parts of the former Ottoman Empire (AD 1299-1922) during its later period, and in the Balkans.
