Plate

Plate, late 20th century AD, Brass and enamel, d. 22 cm

This decorative plate is made of brass and coloured with enamel.  In the centre, it has the national flag of Lebanon superimposed on a map of the country, which is in relief.  The flag has two red and one white stripes and a green and brown cedar tree in the centre.  On either side is in relief the name ‘LEBANON’ in English and Arabic.  The central design is enclosed in a raised circle.  The rim is decorated by two rows of triangles in relief.  It is characteristic of plates that are sold as tourist items in Lebanon and it generally reflects the nationalistic feeling of the country.
