Poems by Mikhail Farah

Book, AD 1993*, Paper

This collection of poems by Mikhail Farah (1927-75), who was killed in the Lebanese Civil War (1975-90), is an important book in the museum’s library.  Monzer Farah, who has served as the President of the museum and is a committee member, is the son of Mikhail Farah.  Characteristic of traditional poetry of the Mediterranean region, the poems describe many aspects of life, and some were sung by the famous Lebanese singer, Fairuz (b. 1934).  The poems were the subject of a lecture of the museum, entitled‘Mikhail Farah: An Arabic Poet from Toula, North Lebanon’, which was presented at the Nicholson Museum, The University of Sydney, in 2011 by Dr Nijmeh Hajjar, who was then Chair, Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, The University of Sydney.
