Model of Ship

Model of ship, Inv. No. TMA 1320/12/36, late 20th century AD, Wood, cotton and steel

Since Lebanon is a country next to the Mediterranean Sea, sea faring has always been an important part of its culture, and, in antiquity, the Phoenicians from the region of Lebanon established a trading empire throughout the Mediterranean region.  Although perhaps not a completely accurate representation, this model of a Phoenician galley has five oars on each side and a sail.  It is characteristic of ships used by the Phoenicians and other inhabitants of Lebanon over the centuries.
